Ageing Creatively projects launching this month

We're kicking off the New Year with four new exciting community projects.

We're kicking off the New Year with four new Ageing Creatively community projects.

With the new year upon us, many people are looking for creative new activities that can make the year ahead a happier and healthier one.

Here at the Corn Exchange, we are dedicated to providing opportunities for local people to engage with creative activities and are kicking off the new year with the launch of four new Ageing Creatively community projects for people aged 55 and over in West Berkshire.

Officially launched in October 2016, Ageing Creatively explores ways to engage older people in the arts, in both community and care settings, through offering activities and courses across all the arts including song, poetry, dance and visual arts. The creative sessions provide an opportunity for people to come together and socialise in a fun, informal environment and participants might learn a new skill, rediscover a hobby or perform to the public for the first time.

Following on from the success of the launch, four key projects are to begin this spring. Dare to Dance and Choir 55, for the local community, and This is Me and Words Together, which are both based in care settings.

Dare to Dance

An exciting new adult community dance project consisting of two different groups, beginners and intermediate. The groups will be welcoming, accessible and offer the opportunity for participants to explore their creative side while improving fitness and meeting new people. There will be two informal taster sessions in January (beginners on Wednesday 11 January and intermediate on Friday 20 January) offering participants the opportunity to try it out and meet the team. Choir 55

A new singing group specifically for people over 55. Participants do not need any previous experience, Choir 55 is all about having fun and enjoying music! We meet every Thursday at St Nicolas Hall, Newbury. Group singing has many benefits including boosting self-confidence, reducing anxiety and improving posture.Find out more

Our Ageing Creatively Coordinator, Harriet Wyatt, said “We are so pleased to be launching Choir 55 and Dare to Dance. Both projects are a really exciting opportunity for members of the community to do something creative, meet new people and learn new skills. All of our Ageing Creatively projects will be welcoming and accessible no matter what your previous experience. Being creative can help us live healthier, happier lives - especially if we meet new friends along the way.”
