A tender and beautifully woven tale of love, friendship and acceptance.
By the same Tony Award writers of Lucky Stiff (Chichester Festival Company 2019) – Stephen Flaherty (music) and Lynn Ahrens (lyrics) – the musical A Man of No Importance is based on the 1994 Albert Finney film of the same title, which was, in its turn, based on Oscar Wilde’s play A Woman of No Importance.
With a book by Tony Award playwright Terrence McNally (Ragtime, Kiss of the Spiderwoman, The Rink) the musical embraces many taboos of Irish Catholic society in an honest, touching and joyful score.
A Man of No Importance is a rare gem in the canon of musical theatre, combining the depth and drama of a play with the lyricism and comedy of a musical.
