Alec Dankworth's World Spirit

Thursday 18th May 2017, Arlington Arts Centre

Full Price £20

A welcome return by Festival favourite Alec Dankworth, whose early musical influences came from his parents, Cleo Laine and John Dankworth.

Alec is an award-winning jazz bassist and composer known for his energetic stage presence and versatility of style. He has worked with an amazing list of artists such as Van Morrison and Stéphane Grappelli, and leads several groups, including World Spirit which we hear in this concert, where he joins forces with world percussionist Paul Clarvis, leading saxophonist Brandon Allen and daughter Emily Dankworth.

Formed out of Alec’s love of music from the Iberian peninsula, World Spirit crosses the Straights of Gibraltar to explore melodies from Africa, South America and other continents.

'Elegant stability, big sound, sure beat and thoughtful spontaneity.'
