A circular walk led by Phil Wood, taking in the Market Place, Newbury Wharf, Victoria Park, Newbury Lock, West Mills and St Nicolas Church during which we cover Newbury’s history from the Domesday Book to the modern day. Pubs, breweries, almshouses, non-conformity, trade and, of course, the church and canal.
The walk is aimed at an adult audience, but children 12 and over are welcome.
Phil researches, writes and lectures on the history of Newbury and family history. He is President of the Newbury District Field Club (the town’s local history society); his particular interests are the pubs and breweries of Newbury and the war memorials of West Berkshire.
