Explore Newbury Heritage Walk: Wartime Newbury

Friday 5th Jul 2019, Meet outside the Corn Exchange

Full Price £5 /

A guided walk within the largely pedestrian town centre to see the sites which played a part in the two World Wars. We shall see where the film ‘The Battle of the Somme’ was shown in 1916, where the Lord Mayor’s coach was stored during WWII, and why the Emergency Bridge was constructed. Buildings, street corners and river banks have a story to tell.

The walk is aimed at an adult audience, but children 12 and over are welcome.

Jane Burrell is a former curator of West Berkshire Museum and is the current Secretary of the Newbury District Field Club (Newbury’s local history society). An entertaining speaker, she gives many talks to local groups

Duration: 90 minutes
