In this bicentennial year of the death of Jane Austen in 1817, we bring to you the film adaptation of one of her best-loved books.

The deft and very funny Sense & Sensibility tells the tale of the Dashwood sisters, sensible Elinor (played by Emma Thompson) and passionate Marianne (Kate Winslet), whose chances of marriage seem doomed by their family’s sudden loss of fortune.

Also starring Alan Rickman, Hugh Grant and Greg Wise as the well-intentioned suitors trapped by the strict rules of society and the conflicting laws of desire, this captivating period drama was named Best Picture of the Year at the Golden Globes Awards.

Duration: 136 minutes
