WHAT IS SHEDONISM?
Shedonism is a 2 day/3 night gathering of the brilliant minds and skills behind the inventions and sculptures that make UK outdoor arts so exciting. It is a chance for the folk that are normally in the workshop and may not tour or go to industry events to get together for 2 days in the deep of winter to have fun and share ideas and skills.
HOW DOES IT WORK?
At 101 we have a fully equipped workshop that can house all the makers, a large space for test driving, food and accommodation. The makers can bring the projects that have been sat on a shelf in their workshop or their minds and jam it out with everyone - or see what inspires them. It turns into a free flowing marathon of making, eating and after work socialising. We've made a hovercraft, a chainsaw scooter, a rubber band Gatling gun and much more. You can make the things that you’d never be let loose on the street with. The key is sharing your skills. For 2019 we are proposing the theme 'The Sound of Making' - to see if we can make some kind of terrific orchestra.
WHO IS IT FOR?
Experienced makers who for at least part of their lives make inventions, instruments, structures, gadgets, sculptures and ideas for outdoor arts companies. The folk who we’ve all heard of but don’t normally go to conferences and the like and may well not tour with the work they make. We aim to make it a diverse group and may have to make some choices on who is coming.
There are very limited places at Shedonism and we want to make sure that one space is kept for a young maker who is new to the field and keen to get stuck in, learn and network. You may well know this person so please let them know about this opportunity. This place is given by application process. Please send your CV and 500 words about yourself, experience so far and what you hope to do in the future to firstname.lastname@example.org by Friday 5 January 2019. Application is open to anyone under 30 years of age.
MAKER JUMBLE & SOCIAL
From 4pm on 31 January 2019 we’ll hold an open Maker Jumble - the idea of this is that people bring the tasty bits and bobs in their workshop that they aren’t using but can’t throw out and give, swap, sell or loan to each other - there was some great stuff in 2018 – we do ask that you book a free ticket for this in order to help with planning. This will be a great social as well, a chance to see the gang, see what we’ve made and have a play. If you want to stay for dinner you must book a maker jumble dinner ticket in advance, which can be purchased through our website for £5. Please note that if you book for Shedonism you do not need to book for Maker Jumble as well, you are already included for this.
