The Armourer's Dilemma: Armour and Firearms in the British Civil Wars.

By the Civil Wars of the mid-17th century gunpowder weaponry had come to radically affect the nature of warfare. Increasing numbers of infantry and cavalry were equipped with firearms and the use of artillery led to new designs of fortification. This talk by Keith Dowen, Assistant Curator at the Royal Armouries (Leeds), will examine how firearms developed and the ways in which armourers responded to these challenges.

This talk ties in with the re-enactment of the First Battle of Newbury, Newbury I, on the weekend of 23rd and 24th June – please see the listing about this event.
