Young Corn Exchange is an arts events collective for 12 to 25 year olds. Membership gives you access to complimentary tickets, special events, workshop opportunities and training as well as giving you a say in the running of the venue.
What does the group do?
At the Corn Exchange we want to see what ideas young people have when it comes to running arts events and, more often than not, we learn as much from the YCE as they do from us.
Young Corn Exchange members put on one event each season as part of our main programme, and take on leadership or assistant roles for each event that they want to be involved in. They run the whole thing with support from Corn Exchange staff, from programming to technical support, marketing the event and everything in between! During projects there are opportunities to work with Corn Exchange staff to learn about how an arts venue is run.
The group is mentored by the Corn Exchange's Learning & Participation team and is run via the YCE Committee, which is made up of long-standing members of the group. This ensures that the group is as youth-led as possible and that Young Corn Exchange events are truly reflective of what local young people want to present. The group also has a Young Corn Exchange Assistant position, which opens annually for members aged 18+ to apply for a year-long paid position within the group.
There is an annual membership fee of £30 to be part of the YCE. All membership fees are reinvested into the group and will directly benefit members by being used to ensure that the training opportunities, ticket offers and social events which are a core part of the YCE’s offer are of the highest quality possible.
As the YCE is an ongoing group, there are no ‘terms’ and you can join at any point. Memberships can be renewed yearly from the date of payment.
As a member, you can:
- Take part in running YCE events throughout the year
- Receive discounted and free ticket offers for various shows each season
- Receive all emails of what is going on with events and socials
- Receive invitations to monthly Social events
- Have access to workshops and arts industry training
- Have access to placements and advice from Corn Exchange staff
It is of the utmost importance to us that the YCE is an inclusive, welcoming groups and we understand that a membership fee may be a barrier to some young people taking part. We particularly want to enable young people who are supporting themselves financially to get involved so if you wish to become a member of the group but are unable to pay the membership fee, please contact the Learning Team for an informal chat as bursaries can be made available.
How to join
It's easy! All you need to do is fill in the form at the bottom of this page, drop it in to the Corn Exchange Box Office, and make your membership payment. This can be done in person at the Box Office or over the phone on 08455 218 218; unfortunately membership cannot be paid via our website.
We can then send you a welcome pack and you can get started!
