Work experience placements at the Corn Exchange involve students working with every department across five working days. This would usually include Learning and Participation, Marketing, Technical, Box Office, Front of House, Production and General Management. Post 16 placements are also available for people aged 16+.
Each season we are able to offer up to three work experience placements; each student will gain a quality experience throughout the week, across the entire breadth of our organisation. To apply, please download the appropriate Application Form at the bottom of this page, fill it in carefully and send it to the e-mail address or postal address on the form.
We have to organise our placements a Season ahead, so please check the below dates carefully to see which Season is currently open for applications. We do our very best to accommodate as many people as possible on our placements, but as we receive a lot of applications we operate deadlines for applications and an interview process to help us manage this and make it as fair as possible. Applicants will be contacted by email in the week after the application deadline about interviews.
Placements to take place between:
- January and April 2017: The application deadline is 5pm on Monday 26 September 2016. Interviews will take place on 3 & 4 October 2016 at the Corn Exchange
- May and July 2017: The application deadline is 5pm on Monday 16 January 2017. Interviews will take place on 23 & 24 January 2017 at the Corn Exchange
POST 16 PLACEMENTS
Outside school term times we are able to offer placements for A-level students, school leavers, university students, postgraduate students and adults seeking wider work experience with a view to accessing a career in venue-based theatre work. These placements are one working week in duration and, depending on the dates you are available and your specific interests, will either take a similar form to schools placements (working across all departments) or you will be attached to a specific project or department.
Please make your interests clear on your application form and use it as an opportunity to tell us a bit about yourself. The number of these sorts of placements we can offer is entirely dependent on the sorts of projects we are running, staff availability and interview. If we are unable to offer you a placement for entirely practical reasons we will let you know by e-mail. This does not reflect personally on the applicant.
To apply please download the Post 16 Placements Application Form at the bottom of this page and return it to the e-mail or postal address on the form. You can also download a series of frequently asked questions (below). Please read these before sending in your application.
“What I enjoyed most about my time were the people I was surrounded by. I couldn’t have wanted more from them: everyone was so kind and enthusiastic and they never failed to make me laugh – the office was never dull with them around. I only wish I could have done my second week there as well.”
“I got to know people and how they work and what their jobs are. I got the chance to see how the building worked before the public came in. When I stewarded The Monuments Men at the Cinema upstairs it was good to help people find their seats.”
“Thank you for a brilliant weeks work experience at the Corn Exchange! It was really insightful to see and hear about all the exciting events that you put on in the theatre and I really enjoyed all the tasks that were given to me throughout the week. It was a great opportunity and I shall take many skills I learnt with me into the near future!”
