AWARD WINNING BALLET BLACK COMES TO CORN EXCHANGE NEWBURY

Ballet Black bring its new show for 2022 to Corn Exchange Newbury, as part of their twentieth anniversary celebrations on Wednesday 22 June.

Ballet Black is an award-winning, neo-classical ballet company, dedicated to diversifying the ballet industry. The company is made up of international dancers of Black and Asian descent, from six countries, and have entirely original repertoire that covers a broad spectrum of ballet, from classical work to highly contemporary pieces. Ballet Black has achieved great success and garnered numerous awards, including the Best New Dance Production award at both the Black British Theatre and the Olivier Awards in 2020, and have also performed with acclaimed artist Stormzy at the Glastonbury music festival in 2019.

Celebrating twenty years, Ballet Black are delighted to present two new works in 2022. The first, Say It Loud, is choreographed and directed by Ballet Black's Founder and Artistic Director, Cassa Pancho, and charts the struggles and inspiration behind the formation of this exciting and pioneering company, that has seen them create an enviable repertoire and build a reputation as a necessary part of the British ballet industry. The second ballet in this double bill, Black Sun by acclaimed South African choreographer Gregory Maqoma, is a work that draws energy from the sun and the moon giving rise to descendants of ancestors.
