Launching in spring 2019, The Base is to be the home for visual arts and crafts in West Berkshire with high quality touring exhibitions being presented throughout the year, a bustling workshop room for courses and classes as well as resident artists making on site. This is an exciting opportunity to be part of the inaugural season at The Base.
The artists in residence will be the lifeblood of the building. Working in accessible studios, so that visitors can interact with artists, we are excited that The Base will become an artistic hub of cultural excellence. We aren’t just opening a building, we are creating a community of artists, participants and visitors who are all have equal importance and status.
We are looking for artists and craft makers who are at varying points in their career. You may currently be working from home and need more space or you may be more established with your own studio but want to relocate to be part of a new community of artists and participants. Whatever your personal situation may be, it is the ethos that binds us together. We are seeking artists and craft makers who:
- Create exceptional, high quality work
- Are open spirited, generous, and ambitious
- Is committed to community engagement
- Will have a strong and regular presence at The Base
Located on the first floor, there will be 9 studios available, at a subsidised rate, supporting artists at various stages of their career and, importantly, from varying disciplines.
The building is expected to be open in February 2019 and the studios will be available to hire from March 2019. Your first rent instalment will be due on 1 April and each subsequent month – i.e. you will receive your first month free and pay up front for the subsequent month with a standing order. A deposit of one month’s rent will be due before you occupy your studio, if your application is successful.
