EXCITING PERFORMANCE OPPORTUNITY IN NEWBURY: BELONGING(s)

Tilted Productions, Corn Exchange Newbury and 101 Outdoor Arts Creation Space, Newbury are looking for adults of all ages to be part of the Company’s production of BELONGING(s).

BELONGING(s) is an outdoor, site-responsive promenade piece that subtly provokes thoughts on the notion of belonging, home, migration and the fleeting nature of what surrounds us. Created by Maresa von Stockert in collaboration with an intergenerational professional cast of 8 performers, the work combines contemporary dance and physical theatre and an integral use of objects and locality.

The piece unfolds in several locations around 101, the Corn Exchange Newbury’s Outdoor Arts Creation Space on Greenham Business Park. En route between the main scenes, audiences encounter pop-up performance vignettes and installations created with and performed by people from the local community.

We are looking for volunteers of mixed ages and backgrounds to work alongside Tilted’s professional performers and join this exciting project which will culminate in 2 performances at 101 Outdoor Arts Creation Space.

It is completely free to participate. Participants of any age above 18 are welcome and no previous experience is required, just open mindedness, curiosity, your enthusiasm and commitment.

This project is for you if:

• You would like to perform with Tilted and feature in an outdoor event as part of the Corn Exchange’s outdoor arts programme
• You are interested in exploring the Company’s unique ways of working with objects and local surroundings with members of the local Thamesmead community
• You are aged 18+
• You are dedicated and can commit to attending all the information sessions, taster workshops, rehearsals and performance days (see table below)
• You are happy to work outside in any weather

If you would like to take part in this exciting project please contact hello@101outdoorarts.com by 12pm on Saturday 27 May, when we will be holding the second of our information/taster workshops.

The information session and taster workshop is a chance for you to find out more about the project and meet Tilted Production’s Artistic Director, Maresa von Stockert, and the Participation Leader, Valentina Golfieri. The session will include practical work and some discussion. We will notify everyone who attends the taster workshop to let them know whether we can offer them a space on the project.

The Information session and rehearsals will be taking place at:
• 101 Outdoor Arts Creation Space, Communication Way, Greenham Business Park, Newbury, RG19 6HN
• Please bring food and water and be prepared to walk long distances!

The performance will take place at 101 Outdoor Arts Creation Space on Greenham Business Park just outside Newbury, on Saturday 17 June at 4pm and 7.30pm.

About Tilted Productions:

Tilted Productions creates playful yet challenging cross art form collaborations merging contemporary dance, physical theatre, sound and visual art.

Tilted’s Artistic Director, Maresa von Stockert, creates illusionary worlds that are inspired by social, environmental and political observations and questions around our sense of place and identity. Her work re-imagines the familiar to open up different perspectives on the world we live in. It features a constantly evolving interest in the physical dialogue between human bodies - of all forms and ages - and their surroundings. Objects and places (architecture and landscapes) are integral as movement catalysts and metaphors in her pieces. Maresa has received wide recognition for her work, including a Time Out Live Award for Outstanding Choreography; a Jerwood Choreography Award and a Bonnie Bird Choreography Award.

In 2011, Tilted Productions was nominated for a Critics Circle National Dance Award in the Best Independent Company category. Tilted Productions tours nationally and internationally and has recently been supported by various European networks such as ZEPA, PASS and IN SITU, as well as the UK Without Walls Consortium.

Tilted Productions is a National Portfolio Organisation funded by Arts Council England and Ipswich Borough Council.
