Today we have announced a new temporary home for our Learning Centre programme of work as from September 2022 it moves to share premises with Hogan Music on Bartholomew Street.
The Learning Centre opened in September 2017 on the corner of the Market Place and has since hosted workshops and courses for all ages, from activities for parents and babies through to the Ageing Creatively programme of work for over-55s, as well as being home to the Corn Exchange Youth Theatre. The move forms part of our long-term plan to secure a new, permanent, town centre home for our Learning Centre, and the full range of activities will continue in the new workshop space on the ground floor of Hogan Music.
Katy Griffiths, director of Corn Exchange Newbury, says ‘The Learning Centre is a hive of activity with a huge variety of sessions every week and we have seen participant numbers grow year on year. It is such a joy to welcome people of all ages in for creative activity and to see the positive impact this has on their lives. While we search for a new permanent base it is very important to us that we remain within the town centre in a location which has easy access for our visitors and are delighted to be working with Hogan Music as a cultural hub.’
Steve Christmas, Director of Hogan Music, says ‘Hogan Music has been at the heart of the musical community for over 30 years and we’re delighted to be able to work with the Corn Exchange Newbury while they find a permanent home for their Learning Centre. Sharing Hogan Music’s unique building in the town centre will create an incredibly vibrant and rich mixture of music, drama, dance and arts all in one place. As the contemporary music experts in the area, this is a really exciting period for arts and culture in the region.’
We are also pleased to announce a change to our Box Office phone number and from mid-June a local number will be in use, reducing costs for customers. Those wishing to call to book tickets or to make enquiries will be able to phone on 01635 522733.
The autumn season of workshops and courses, along with the full season of live events, will go on sale to Members on Thursday 16 June and on general sale on Thursday 23 June.
All existing summer classes and workshops scheduled until the end of August will remain in the current Learning Centre on the corner of the Market Place. From September, the new address will be Learning Centre, Hogan Music, Winchcombe House, 123-126 Bartholomew Street, Newbury, RG14 5BN.
