Pupils from Curridge Primary School review Horrible Histories

As part of our Reach Out Junior Project pupils from Curridge Primary School visited the Corn Exchange.

The group had an Access All Areas pass to the Corn Exchange where they took a tour of the theatre before taking their seats to watch Horrible Histories: Best of Barmy Britain. After the performance the pupils took part in a fun and interactive workshop delivered by the Company which allowed them to recreate their favourite scenes using the show's costumes and props!

Their time on the Reach Out Project has come to an end, however, they were set the task of writing their own review on the performance. They all came up with fantastic responses, but below are two of our favourites written by Rufus and Anna!

Horrible Histories: Best of Barmy Britain by Rufus

This play was amazing, perfect for both children and adults, changing history from my least favourite subject to my most! The play went into the more gory bits of history with extreme detail, humour and horror.

The two actors raced through the most important and disgusting moments in British history in just one single hour! Props and costumes were used to add to the humour and interact with the audience.

I enjoyed many moments of this play but the most memorable one was when one of the actors started choking on the “polluted” water. and when he shared a joke with the other actor. Another hilarious moment was when the actor ripped the head off a teddy bear that had been planted in the audience!

The actors really interacted with the audience asking members to come onto the stage, putting them in stocks and asking us to throw sponges that were wet at them! They also started squirting water pistols at us soaking all our clothes!

Altogether I give Barmy Britain five stars!

Horrible Histories Barmy Britain by Anna

Synopsis:

I was shown that life in the past (while being amazingly gruesome) was interesting! There was Terrible Tudors, Vile Victorians and much more. History has now gone from being my worst subject to my best. I now know that it was not amazing in the past, but incredibly interesting.

What I liked:

You would be amazed by how well everything went together, I thought it was brilliant how they used the props to make it seem real.

How they engaged us:

We were engaged by them using familiar songs and then changing the lyrics to make it hilarious. They also included us because they made us have a singing contest!

If you don’t come and see it you will be missing out because it is great for all ages.

Rating:

I give five stars as it was amazing!
