We're thrilled to announce that the Corn Exchange was successful in our application to take part in the National Theatre’s annual Connections Festival for 2018.
This amazing news coincides with the launch of our new Youth Theatre programme, which will be kicking off in our purpose built Learning Centre later this month. Our Intermediate group (for ages 14 - 16 years) will therefore have the opportunity to be involved with this national celebration of youth performances, alongside 250 other youth theatres from across the UK!
We are so thrilled that young people in Newbury and the surrounding areas have access to this opportunity this year; and the best part of the news is that there is still time to be involved!
As part of the festival, the National Theatre commissions ten plays from established playwrights which are then performed by youth theatre groups across the UK. Each group is given a play selected by the National Theatre and then it is the groups’ job to bring the play to life, to make important staging decisions, and decide how they wish to tell the story to their audience.
Past plays include work by esteemed writers such as Mark Ravenhill, Simon Armitage, Patrick Marber, Jackie Kay and Malorie Blackman, so the calibre of new writing is really high and we are guaranteed to be working with an interesting, as well as challenging, subject matter. Our Intermediate group will be rehearsing our chosen play once the autumn term begins, working towards a professional showing of the play early next year at the Corn Exchange.
So if you, or a young person you know, has a passion for performing or a desire to give it a go, then register your place now. The National Theatre Connections Festival is open to our Intermediate Youth Theatre group of actors, who meet on a Thursday between 6pm – 7.30pm. You can register for a place on our website here or by calling Box Office on 0845 5218 218*.
