Launching in February 2019 on Greenham Business Park, The Base is to be the home for visual arts and crafts in West Berkshire with high quality touring exhibitions being presented throughout the year, a bustling workshop room for courses and classes, as well as resident artists making on site.

The Base opens with the prestigious Wildlife Photographer of the Year exhibition - an international showcase of the very best in nature photography. Seen by millions of people all over the world, the images shine a spotlight on nature photography as an art form, whilst challenging us to address the big questions of the planet.

The exhibition showcases 100 acclaimed photographs from all the competition categories and presents a huge variety of inspiring images capturing nature's rich diversity. We are thrilled to be welcoming this exhibition to Newbury as part of its extensive international tour and hope you will enjoy exploring this beautiful collection of photographs.

Workshops and Courses

As well as presenting high quality exhibitions there are a wide range of workshops, events and courses, all led by highly skilled creative practitioners and artists. If you're looking to learn a new skill, there are new introductory classes in glass, figure drawing and acrylics. Or if you're looking for something more advanced there are life drawing, watercolours and pastels courses as well.

Resident Artists

The artists in residence will be the lifeblood of the building. Working in accessible studios, so that visitors can interact with artists, we are excited that The Base will become an artistic hub of cultural excellence. We aren’t just opening a building, we are creating a community of artists, participants and visitors who are all have equal importance and status.
