Learn more about the fundraising art sale by artist Matt Wooldridge raising funds for our Old Library campaign

To support our ongoing Old Library campaign, a new art series is on sale in our front of house area.

These beautiful pieces of art are the work of contemporary local artist Matt Wooldridge, who aims to immerse viewers in emotionally charged pieces that evoke memory, mood, and the subtle poetry of everyday life.

The Newbury-based self-taught artist developed his skills through continuous experimentation, to create works that balance technical skill with personal expression. Matt’s main body of work focuses on strong and powerful portraiture, embracing imperfection, as the rough style captures the rawness of life. His latest work ‘Local Series’ captures landmarks around Newbury, using light, shadow and texture to bring the architecture to life.

This exciting new series transforms local spaces and moments into evocative, cinematic experiences to reflect the same emotional intensity as the portraiture - inviting viewers to experience the world with heightened sensitivity and reflection.

With a distinctive theme that blends mood, narrative, and emotional resonance, Matt continues to explore how art can transform perception, evoke empathy, and connect deeply with audiences. The works currently on display , along with prints, are available for purchase, with thirty percent of the proceeds generously donated to the Old Library Campaign, to reopen this historic local landmark as a vibrant arts hub for the community.
