Bringing to life a transcript between photographer Peter Hujar (Ben Whishaw) and Linda Rosenkrantz (Rebecca Hall) this is a gentle portrayal of a queer photographer in his time.

A celebrated photographer for his images documenting queer life and often associated with Andy Warhol and Robert Mapplethorpe; Peter Hujar's sitters were some of the most culturally significant figures of 1970s New York, including Susan Sontag and Fran Lebowitz.

In 1974, Hujar took part in a documentary nonfiction project by author Linda Rosenkrantz, in which he went around to her apartment and recounted into a tape machine everything that happened to him in one particular day.

The tape had gone missing, but the typescript survived, published three years ago as Peter Hujar’s Day and now filmed by director Ira Sachs as a verbatim-cinema piece entirely within Rosenkrantz’s apartment.
