Legacy giving

Once you have remembered the people you care about, leaving a legacy to the Corn Exchange could make a huge difference to our work.

Why leave a legacy to the Corn Exchange, Newbury?

Once you have remembered the people you care about, leaving a legacy to the Corn Exchange could make a huge difference to our work.

Leaving a legacy to the Corn Exchange will allow us to continue growing our extensive programme of work, whether that be our outdoor work, our projects for people living with dementia or those supporting young people to develop lifelong skills that will help them in all walks of future life.

Any gift, large or small, will help us to carry out all the important work we do and make Newbury and West Berkshire an exciting place to live and work.

Ways you can leave a gift

Whatever your age, an up to date, professionally written Will is incredibly important and is the only way to ensure that your wishes are carried out after your death. We recommend that you consult a specialist legal advisor before drafting a will or updating an existing one.

You can find a list of accredited Will and inheritance lawyers in your area on the Law Society website at www.lawsociety.org.uk. Remember a Charity provides independent advice on leaving legacies to charities at www.rememberacharity.org.uk. You can also call the Citizens Advice Bureau on 03444 111 444 who can provide a list of solicitors in your area.

There are several different types of bequest or gift, but the main ones are:

A residuary gift – a share or the whole of whatever is left of your estate after all other payments and legacies have been made

A pecuniary gift – a gift of a fixed sum of money. The value of pecuniary legacies will decrease over time as the cost of living increases.

A specific gift - a particular named item such as a piece of jewellery, furniture or work of art.

As a registered charity, the Corn Exchange pays no tax on gifts we receive. If you make a gift to the Corn Exchange in your Will, the value will be deducted from your estate before inheritance tax is calculated, which means that you can support us and reduce your inheritance tax liability at the same time.
