Following a successful event in 2024, Beyond the Stage runs as part of the Careers in the Arts programme, and comes to the Corn Exchange in July.

Open to anyone wanting to find out more about opportunities within the creative industries, we are opening our doors to local secondary school students, teachers and parents to come and experience the different career pathways in the creative arts sector. From interactive workshops to inspiring talks and Q&As, those attending will have the opportunity to learn directly from industry professionals and hear about their journey into a career in the arts.

The Creator Network - Rusted Boot Productions

The day’s programme of events will end with a performance from Rusted Boot Productions, Family Ties, which has been developed through the Creator Network.

As part of the Careers in the Arts project, Creator Network is a group that supports emerging creatives aged 18 - 25 years with their first steps into the industry.

Since November 2024, this cohort of Creator Network have met monthly and have had their knowledge of the industry challenged and developed with a series of independent research tasks and exercises. From there, the group have learnt about producing their own theatre company and subsequently have devised, written and directed their original piece, Family Ties.

Family Ties opens a window into four generations of the Shire Family. Through the performance we are invited to visit them around their kitchen table as we follow the journey of one family shaped by the historical events of their town.

Born into the midst of World War II, Georgie Shire navigates domestic life throughout national and local events, in a home that houses 4 generations of the Shire family from 1940s to 1990s.

Family Ties captures the essence of what bonds a family together throughout the challenges of everyday life in Newbury.

The evening celebration will begin from 6.30pm where guests will enjoy a complimentary drink and nibbles. The performance of Family Ties will begin at 7pm, followed by a Q&A with the Rusted Boot company to talk through their process and experience of being part of the Creator Network.
