Two female dancers on stage, one in an orange long dress and one in a pink long dress.

A powerful Kathak performance blending dance, storytelling, and live music.

A high-energy Kathak piece featuring the cyclic phenomenon of South Asian classical arts and philosophy – where there is no beginning or end; incorporating Nritta (pure dance) and Nritya (expression of narrative) to capture the first beat of a time cycle and nest it until it becomes the ‘one’ again.

Choreographed by Amina Khayyam with Kathak composition collaboration with Debasish Mukherjee and accompanied by live music featuring tabla and cello – three dancers weave individual stories of migrants tarnished by media and politicians for cheap exploitation, spreading fear for those risking their lives to make a better future.

Story of One, Story of Many is a variation of Amina Khayyam Dance Company's (AKDC) critically acclaimed production ONE performed solo by Amina Khayyam that has toured extensively since 2010, receiving the following praise:

'As a hymn to how we ought to change for our migrants this was elegiac… Khayyam’s performance was, one to gaze at with unremitting awe… the Cello, at its most contemplative….. singing was, without any shadow of any doubt the most haunting I have heard for some time.'

Fringe Review 2022
