Murder for Two puts the laughter in manslaughter!

Get Ready for a killer night of laughs with Murder for Two at the Corn Exchange Newbury!

Prepare for an unforgettable night of music, mystery, and mayhem as the comedy musical Murder for Two takes centre stage at the Corn Exchange Newbury on Tuesday 12 and Wednesday 13 November.

Presented by Chipping Norton Theatre, this laugh-out-loud musical murder mystery comes with a unique twist: two actors do it all. One actor takes on the role of the detective, while the other plays all of the suspects. All while both performers play the piano throughout the show.

The plot thickens when the body of renowned novelist Arthur Whitney is discovered at his own birthday party. Now, everyone at the party is a suspect, and it's up to local beat-cop turned amateur detective Officer Marcus to crack the case before the professionals arrive. Can he untangle the clues, or will the murderer get away scot-free?

With non-stop live music, zany characters, and hilarious surprises around every corner, Murder for Two is a theatrical experience not to be missed. Whether you're a fan of musical theatre, murder mysteries, or just love a good laugh, this show delivers it all in one exhilarating package.

History of the show:

Murder For Two was developed at The Adirondack Theatre Festival and 42nd Street Moon. Chicago Shakespeare Theatre presented the World Premiere Production in May, 2011, which was extended 4 times and ran for more than 6 months. Kinosian and Blair were recognized with a 2011 Joseph Jefferson Award for Best New Musical. Murder For Two opened at Second Stage Theatre’s uptown home, the McGinn/Cazale Theatre, in July, 2013. It was extended twice due to popular demand. The Second Stage production transferred to New World Stages, where performances began on October 23, 2013. Murder For Two had a subsequent two-year national tour, and it has been performed in Japan, South Korea, China, Argentina, Brazil and the UK.

Note from the Director:

Director Caroline Leslie said, 'I made the mistake of first reading Murder for Two on public transport. Within the first page, I was snorting with laughter and drawing some odd looks. This whip-smart, delight of a piece immediately made me want to direct it, not least to take on the crazy but glorious challenge of staging a large cast murder mystery musical with only two actors and one piano! What I really loved was the playfulness of characterisation, the clever parody and endless possibility for mischief within the play. The production design draws on a comic take on the genre of murder mysteries and the setting of rural New England. Audiences can expect music, mayhem and murder and a very healthy dose of laughter.'
