If your New Years resolution was to be more creative or you are wanting to try something new, then now is your chance! Our amazing array of spring workshops at The Base will excite your imagination and encourage you to get creative.
With our Spring classes at The Base already underway, we are looking forward to French Polishing and Woodcare for Beginners. This one day beginners workshop with Oliver Piepereit from OP Woodcare is designed to give you the fundamental basics of French polishing and woodcare. You will have a hands on day learning the vital practical skills needed to refinish furniture recreationally.
Learn some simple mending and sewing techniques to extend the life of your clothes with our workshop Make Do & Mend. Bring your own projects and clothing items with you for this fun and friendly workshop with textile artist Abbie Brunskill. This is perfect for beginners and those keen to change habits and slow down fast fashion.
If sculpture is more your thing, capture the swift and graceful movement of a swallow out of coloured copper wire with our Wire Swallows workshop. Wire sculptor Flora Gare will show you how to sculpt with wire; learning to trace, join and shape the wire, while working from a drawing. The perfect addition for the home or garden for any bird lover.
In time for Valentine's day create a large Willow Heart with Judith Needham to display all those cards you'll be getting! Or if you prefer, you can make several smaller purely decorative hearts and there will also be the option to use freshly cut willow to make a topiary heart that can be planted.
Come and knit with Sophie Hale, with her popular workshop Arm Knitting for Beginners. You can learn how to knit an on-trend throw using gorgeous, soft, chunky yarn and using just your arms! With a selection of sumptuous colours to choice from a handmade throw is surely the perfect addition to any home during the cold winter nights or wonderful gift for a loved one.
Join Shirley Eccles to explore Glass Fusing: Kiln Carving and Metal Inclusions. Work with different design and fusing techniques to create lovely unique glass artworks of your own using Kiln Formed Glass.
Have you ever wondered what it would be like to express you feelings non verbally, but through creative expression. Join Yvonne de Savigny in her workshop Free Flow Expression, for a few hours of fun, creating your own unique master piece using a variety of mediums.
Continuing with the benefits of creative expression for our well being, we host Nature Craft sessions as part of the Ageing Creatively programme with the Corn Exchange. During these sessions with Sophie Hale, you can get creative and connect with nature, using natural materials to create your own art works inspired by the outdoors.
For children and young people we have a fun introduction to lino printing with Children's Spring Printmaking with artist Charlotte Adcock. Here, young ones can explore spring themes and create colourful prints to take home!
For all budding young artists, we have our Half Term Art Club, for children aged 7-11 years to experiment with different art techniques and creative projects. There is no end to our creative ideas to keep young ones busy and creative over the half term!
