LOCAL DANCER REUBEN SPENCER PRODUCES THE YOUNG PERFORMERS SHOWCASE AT THE CORN EXCHANGE

Newbury local and Corn Exchange team member Reuben Spencer produces the Young Performers Showcase, illustrating talent from local schools in West Berkshire on our stage on Tuesday 27 June at 7.30pm.

The performance will celebrate dance, music and theatre from Trinity School, St Bartholomew’s School and The Downs School and the showcase has been supported by a cohort of young people who attend the weekly Young Creatives sessions at the Corn Exchange.

Reuben has always had a strong interest in performing arts and attended Trinity school himself. He is part of many dance companies which tour around Southern England, was in the 2022 Newbury Pantomime, Jack and the Beanstalk and has even been on BBC Dance Passion in 2022! You may even recognise him from working in our front of house area!

Producer Reuben Spencer says ‘I wanted to create the Young Performers Showcase because back in 2020 performing arts had to stop and are still struggling today. The money and the audiences coming into the theatres are much less than they were previously, so I wanted to produce a show to help the Corn Exchange as I’ve come here to watch the pantomime since the age of 5. I've also been working at the Corn Exchange as a Front of House Assistant for a few years now so luckily, I was given the green light for my idea.

Having never produced a show before I didn't realise how many processes there were from the show creation to the finished piece. Luckily, I enjoy a challenge and I’m looking forward to the final product when everyone gets to be on stage. Please come and show your support for performing arts at the Corn Exchange Newbury where you will be made very welcome!

The young performers have been creating freesheets and they will also be taking over the Corn Exchange social media channels on Tuesday so stay tuned for all the behind the scenes content!

This performance is set to inspire audience members of all ages as it demonstrates the diverse and high-quality talent right here in Newbury. Get your tickets to the Young Performers Showcase here.
