Trains, comedy and more with LipService Theatre

The multi-award-winning comedy duo LipService Theatre return to the Corn Exchange with Strangers on a Train Set. We find out more about the ride that is in store..

What was the starting point for the show?

This is an affectionate look at the world of model railway enthusiasts. So we meet Derek and Geoff who are going to give us a demonstration of their model train layout. As they place little miniature figures on their railway platform, we become those characters on stage and go on an adventure, taking in a crazy video game called 'Last of the Supersavers', witness several murders, investigated by spinster sleuth Miss Sparrow and we also meet characters from nostalgic train movies.

What can audiences expect from the show?

What’s your favourite train-based novel or film that you’ve used for the performance?

We have lots of references, lots of Agatha Christie, Murder on the 5.15 from Paddington, Brief Encounter and The Railway Children.

How do you incorporate the video projections into the performance?

Derek and Geoff are on a big screen demonstrating their train layout. At one point the big screen becomes the top of a speeding Pendolino train, where we have a Bond-style train top fight. We have a further downstage projection screen, so we can have trains coming towards the audience.

If you could describe the performance in three words what would they be?

Choo choo comedy!

Strangers on a Train Set is at the Corn Exchange on Thursday 27 February at 7.45pm. The performance will be Audio Described. Click here to find out more about Strangers on a Train Set
