Can you help us fundraise for the Old Library?

We want to transform the Old Library to become a new arts hub for Newbury, providing a space for creative participation and wellbeing opportunities for people of all ages.

There are loads of ways you could help us raise money for this amazing project and have fun at the same time. Here are some ideas and tips to help you along the way.

Fundraising Ideas
The first step is choosing a way to fundraise. There are loads of ways you can raise money for the Old Library campaign - here are some ideas:

• Get Creative - if you have a unique skill or craft, could you sell your creations for a donation? A cake sale always goes down a treat, or you could run your own baking contest for friends or colleagues, asking for a donation in exchange for entry;

• Host an Event - bring people together to do something you enjoy whilst also raising vital funds for the campaign. For example, you could host a bridge marathon, a dinner party or a performance.

• Workplace Fundraising – you could organise a coffee morning, fancy dress day, sweepstake or group challenge with colleagues or friends;

• Sports Challenge - if you are planning to compete in a race, we would love you to collect sponsorship for the Old Library or test your footie skills by hosting a charity football match. What about a golf day or swimming marathon. Whatever sport takes your fancy.

• Get quizzical! - gather your friends and family to host an arts-themed quiz night.

• Wear What You Like Themed Day - everyone loves to dress up (or down). For a small donation of your choice ditch the blazers, ties, and shirts.

Funding guidelines
We want your fundraising to be as successful and safe as possible, so please follow these simple guidelines:

• If your event involves the public, please seek advice regarding public liability insurance.
• There are strict laws relating to all lotteries and raffles so please follow these and operate your auction or raffle accordingly here.
• As part of your fundraising, you may encounter personal data. You are responsible for ensuring any data you hold complies with the Data Protection Act 2018. As a rule of thumb, keep any data you have stored securely and safe from loss or unauthorised access. Do not keep data for any longer than you need it and do not share information about someone without their permission. Make sure you securely dispose of any data.
• Gift Aid can only be claimed for an individual donation. It cannot be claimed on behalf of a group or as part of a collection. More information can be found here.

Food Hygiene

Extra care should be taken if your fundraising idea involves children, please ensure you have sufficient adult supervision and always seek permission from parents or guardians before taking or sharing photos.

Social media

Using social media is a fantastic way to let people know about your fundraiser.

• Add a link to your online fundraising page on your updates on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and any other social networks you use.
• Add pictures to bring your fundraising to life. Whether it is cakes, costumes or quizzes, people are much more likely to engage if there is a picture! Photos of community rather than stock images do much better as people like real and relatable photos.
• Create a Facebook event for your fundraiser and invite all your friends and family and share on community Facebook groups.
• Do not forget to tag @cornexchange - we love seeing what you are doing to raise money. We are also on TikTok so tag us there too @cornexchangenewbury

JustGiving

You can choose to fundraise however you like but the easiest way to raise money is with a JustGiving page. It is quick to sort out and simple to use:

• You can fundraise on your own or as part of a group;
• Your friends and family can sponsor you easily;
• You can keep track of donations;
• There is no need to use a sponsorship form to keep track of donations;
• Donations are paid straight to the Corn Exchange.
• To set up your giving page simply head to www.justgiving.com and register as a fundraiser. Make sure that you link your page to the Old Library Corn Exchange campaign on www.justgiving.com/for-justfundraising /how-to-create-a-fundraising-page

Make the most of your page:

People want to know why you are raising money for the Old Library, so updating your page by adding photos, videos and stories can really help boost fundraising;
• Make sure you share your page on Facebook and Twitter and email it to your friends and family. It is a fantastic way to reach a lot of people!
• Let people know that their donation will make a real difference to the vital work we do, have a look at www.cornexchangenew.com/oldlibrary for lots of information about the campaign;
• Top Tip! Try and get the most generous person to donate to your online fundraising page first. That way, when other people visit your fundraising page, they may be tempted to match or 'out donate' them.

How to pay in the money you have raised

• Online – if you use a JustGiving fundraising page all donations go straight to the Old Library campaign through the Corn Exchange

• In person - please make cheques payable to Corn Exchange (Newbury) Trust. If you did a sponsored event, please enclose your sponsorship form(s) with your payment so that we can claim gift aid. Please send cheques to Corn Exchange, FAO Claire Currie, Market Place, Newbury, RG14 5BD

• Bank transfer (BACs) - use the account details below to complete your bank transfer then email [email protected] with full details, including the date and amount that was transferred.
