Find out more about the Old Library project

Our plans for the Old Library

The Old Library will become a permanent home for our creative participation and wellbeing activity. Much of this activity is currently housed in a temporary space, but the large spaces and sole use at the Old Library will enable us to expand this work to acheive 40,000 engagements each year.

The Old Library will have two engagement spaces, one of which will be a flexible studio theatre and a café bar. It will be a place to connect with others, develop creative skills or try new things. We know the power of engagement in creative activity and the impact this has on people's lives and are excited to be expanding activity that will improve the emotional, physical and mental wellbeing of our community.

The Old Library will be home to all of the Corn Exchange’s creative workshops and classes, including our Youth Theatre and sessions such as Singing for Recovery, Dare to Dance, and Creative Art Journaling. The building will also have a flexible space that will function as a studio theatre for live performance.

‘This will be such a valuable space and wonderful resource for our town’

We are continuing our fundraising campaign to fit out the spaces before we can open the building to the public later in 2025.
