A closer look at the natural world as Wildlife Photographer of the Year 60 opens at The Base

A stunning celebration of nature, art, and storytelling has arrived at The Base Greenham.
Now open to the public, the Wildlife Photographer of the Year 60 exhibition brings the world’s most extraordinary wildlife photography to Berkshire, marking the 60th anniversary of this globally renowned showcase from the Natural History Museum in London.
The exhibition features over 100 breath-taking images that capture the diversity, drama, and delicate beauty of the natural world. From dramatic moments of predator and prey to quiet glimpses of intimate animal behaviours, the photographs serve not just as artistic masterpieces but as compelling stories of our planet’s wildlife. They offer audiences a rare chance to witness the wonders of nature through the eyes of the world’s finest photographers, each frame inviting reflection and awe.

Here's what people have to say about the exhibition...
'Very thought-provoking'
'It's definitely worth a visit, you'll see pictures that you never thought were possible before.'
'...the most amazing thing is when you look at an image and think it is one thing, then look deeper and it's something else...'
'There's something there for everybody to enjoy!'
The exhibition is open from now until Sunday 20 July. For those seeking a quieter experience, special Relaxed Days are scheduled for Thursday 19 June and Thursday 17 July.
For families, Saturday 12 July is a perfect day to visit, with a Wildlife-Inspired Family Day designed to spark creativity and curiosity in young minds. Families can explore the exhibition together, enjoy free craft sessions in the Lookout Studio, and embark on an art-inspired trail through the building, complete with glimpses inside the Resident Artist studios.
The Base is also offering a programme of special events and hands-on activities. On Thursday 26 June, bookers can attend Wildlife Photographer of the Year in Focus, an evening talk with Miranda Lowe CBE, a judging panel member and Principal Curator at the Natural History Museum. The evening includes a fascinating behind-the-scenes look at the judging process, insights into standout images.

Adults can tap into their own creative side with related workshops such as Animal Clay Sculpture on Saturday 5 July, led by artist Cáit Gould, and the Wildlife Photography Experience with professional photographer Simon Booker on Sunday 13 July, giving people a chance to learn the secrets behind capturing the perfect wildlife shot.
Children aren’t left out of the fun either. There are a number of tailored sessions throughout June and July, including Songs and Stories in the Gallery (Thursday 12 & Saturday 21 June, Thursday 3 & Saturday 12 July) for little ones aged 0 - 24 months, Club Curious (Saturday 14 and Sunday 28 June) - a free series of drop-in art workshops, and exciting hands-on activities like the Clay Animal Workshop (Saturday 5 July) and Screen Print a Wildlife Poster (Sunday 6 July), where young artists can turn their favourite wildlife into vibrant prints.
Whether you're an art lover, nature enthusiast, parent, or simply curious, Wildlife Photographer of the Year 60 is a rare chance to engage with the beauty and complexity of our world in a deeply moving and visually spectacular way.
