Creative with Clay

This week we are excited to release another series of free online classes to keep us all active and creative during this time of isolation. To further our digital resources over the coming weeks, from Thursday 2nd April, you will be able to enjoy Clay with Cáit.

This series of four pre-recorded video tutorials will focus on learning the techniques of hand building, led by The Base resident artist and Clay Class tutor Cáit Gould. Now a Berkshire ceramicist, Cáit’s love of ceramics has taken her from studying in Glasgow to being a contestant on the second series of the BBC's The Great Pottery Throw Down. As both an artist and tutor, Cáit enjoys a challenge and injects a sense of fun into her work and teaching.

Going back to basics with this series, these tutorials will show simple instructions on how to make everyday objects from bowls to tea light holders, lidded boxes and, one for the kids, an animal pencil holder. Cáit will be using air dry clay with simple everyday equipment you have at home. We understand not everyone will have access to air dry clay, so here is a salt dough recipe as a fun alternative!

We have listed some things you can find at home and in the garden that will helpful to have to hand;

Toothpick

Plastic
Textured objects (pine cones or other natural objects, tinfoil, pegs and lace or other fabrics)

Whether you and your family are wanting to try something new or you are wanting to develop your own hand building skills, Cáit’s accessible instruction and demonstration will provide the perfect activity for both children or adults to enjoy.
