Funding success thanks to Tesco Stronger Starts

We would like to say a huge thank you for your support with the Tesco Stronger Starts programme!
Thanks to so many of you voting for the Corn Exchange's Roald Dahl Literacy project using your blue tokens in Tesco (Hungerford), the project has received £1,000 from the Tesco Stronger Starts Programme.
This money will allow our professional practitioners to deliver the Roald Dahl project to two classes at Hungerford primary school this May and June.
The Roald Dahl project allows children to get up close and personal with one of Roald Dahl’s classic texts in a six-week literacy and drama project, before rehearsing an adaptation of one of the stories and joining other local schools for a performance on the Corn Exchange main stage.
The project aims to:
- Support children’s literacy development
- Build children’s confidence and self-esteem
- Develop children’s speaking and listening skills
- Promote teamwork and collaboration skills
- To create a performance piece to be showcased to parents/peers at the Corn Exchange
- Develop teacher confidence in integrating drama into their classroom
I have seen all the children grow in confidence as the weeks have gone on. We are also starting to see a more long-term positive impact upon the stage confidence of the children who have been involved in previous years' projects. The children have built their oracy and performance skills and are transferring knowledge they have gained into their other lessons. The support from all staff at the Corn Exchange has been excellent and we have thoroughly enjoyed being involved yet again.
