Meet the cast of Corn Exchange Newbury's Dick Whittington: Adam Craig

Adam Craig, Ensemble

In the lead-up to this year's #NewburyPanto adventure, Dick Whittington, we chatted with Adam Craig, who is a part of the Ensemble, in an exclusive interview...

What are you most looking forward to about performing Dick Whittington at the Corn Exchange this festive season?
I can’t wait to be back in a rehearsal room and all the excitement of piecing together a brand-new show. Everyone is trying new things and working hard to make the show great. It makes for a really fun and infectious energy to be around and a part of.

How do you get into character before stepping on stage each night? And do you have any favourite traditions or superstitions before a performance?
I am very superstition-free! I’m not bothered by the name of a certain Scottish play being said aloud in a theatre but maybe I should be... It’s simple but music and putting my costume on are the only two things I really need to get into the headspace before going on stage. That and a good warmup.

If you went on an adventure like Dick Whittington what three items would you bring with you?
My noise-cancelling headphones with access to Spotify. A nice cologne. A good book.

If you could have a sidekick like Dick Whittington’s cat, what animal would you choose and why?
I would love to have one of those really cute white foxes that live in the snow. They would be so elegant and cute at the same time.

If you could live inside the world of any Christmas film, what would it be?
The Polar Express if the animation wasn’t so scary. A live-action version of the film. I would love a hot chocolate on that train.

If your life was a musical, what musical would it be?
Why is this question so hard. I’m actually stuck. More of a movie musical but I’d say Enchanted. I love Amy Adams.

Cosmo the cat loves tea, do you have a favourite type of tea?
I’m a massive coffee drinker so I’d take an oat flat white over a tea any day. But when me and my friends pass a Whittards we always go in and try their samples and some of them are really good, just don’t ask me which ones.

Do you have any Christmas traditions?
Nothing crazy or out of the ordinary. I do miss building all my Lego sets on Christmas morning as a kid. I wanna bring that back.

Dick Whittington runs from Friday 29 November to Sunday 5 January 2025. Find out more and book your tickets here.
