In the lead-up to this year's #NewburyPanto adventure, Dick Whittington, we chatted with Shannon Bourne, playing Alice Fitzwarren, in an exclusive interview...

What are you most looking forward to about performing Dick Whittington at the Corn Exchange this festive season?

I’m most looking forward to seeing how all the children react to the show, kids have the best energy, especially around the festive season.

How do you get into character before stepping on stage each night? And do you have any favourite traditions or superstitions before a performance?

I like to play tunes in the dressing room to get my energy up. We will definitely be blasting the Christmas songs to get us in the festive spirit.

If you went on an adventure like Dick Whittington what three items would you bring with you?

I’d bring my journal, my phone, and a huge bottle of water. 

If you could have a sidekick like Dick Whittington’s cat, what animal would you choose and why?

I’d choose a little monkey because they’re cheeky and super cute!

If you could live inside the world of any Christmas film, what would it be?

The Grinch! 

If your life was a musical, what musical would it be?

I’d pick Thoroughly Modern Millie cause I’m just a girl with a dream.

Cosmo the cat loves tea, do you have a favourite type of tea?

Kai Harris introduced me to the best brew ever… Tetley Extra Strong! 

Since this is your panto debut, do you have any memories from watching pantomimes?

I don’t remember going to pantomimes as a child so I’m excited to make my first panto memories with our fabulous cast, creatives and crew! 

You have a YouTube channel, TheShannonLife! Do you have any fun ideas for behind-the-scenes content for Dick Whittington?

I’m excited to vlog during the run! It’ll be great to document the show from my perspective and for sure there will be some great behind-the-scenes moments with the cast as they’re all hilarious!
