What’s on offer this September

As the summer holidays have come to an end, it’s time to look forward to a new month of fantastic shows at the Corn Exchange Newbury. With hilarious comedy, iconic music, fundraising fun and family favourites, there is something for everyone to enjoy this September.

Kicking off September's line-up is Danny Beard: Straight Expectations (Wednesday 4). Audience members will join the Drag Race UK winner and their full live band for a 5-star evening of killer vocals, snappy comedy, and unapologetic fun! There will be scandalous antics, side-splitting laughs, and a brutally honest glimpse into the chaotic world of a Z-list 'celeb.' Having shared the stage with Graham Norton at London’s O2 Arena and appeared on shows like The Weakest Link, The Traitors Uncloaked, and Hollyoaks, Danny is ready to bring their unique blend of talent, charm, and wit to Newbury.

There will be plenty to laugh about at the Corn Exchange this month as The Comedy Network returns on Friday 6 September. This month audience members can enjoy the razor-sharp humour of Rachel Fairburn, the charismatic wit of Daman Bamrah and the inventive comedy of Susan Riddell, who all come direct from performing at this year's Edinburgh Festival Fringe. The final member of this month's line-up is the hilarious Ed Kear who you may recognise from his recent appearance in Marvel blockbuster Deadpool and Wolverine. This comedy night gives the perfect opportunity to relax with friends, grab a drink, sit back, and start your weekend with an evening of top-notch comedy. On Tuesday 17, Su Pollard: Still Fully Charged takes to the stage to celebrate Su’s 50 years in show business with hilarious comedy, music and stories of her illustrious career. Fresh from a sold-out Edinburgh Fringe run, Paul Foot: Dissolve (Friday 20) brings his most personal and hilarious show yet.

The next fundraising event for our Old Library Campaign takes place on Sunday 8 September with a special Open Mic Night where local performers will be able to showcase their talents on the main stage in front of a live audience. Following this, on Wednesday 11 September there will be another fundraising event for the campaign with An Evening with Thomas Forrester. The auctioneer, BBC Bargain Hunt Presenter and the Director of Special Auction Services, will share amusing anecdotes from his career, starting right at the beginning. He will offer the audience insights into the antiques market's trends and memorable sales that he's made over the years. This event also provides an opportunity for you to bring your own collectable for a chance to have it valued on stage by Thomas himself, with lucky audience members randomly selected to showcase their item and receive a valuation.

At the end of the month Crown Ballet return to our stage with their mesmerising performance of family-favourite, The Nutcracker (Sunday 22).

Last but not least, Redcape Theatre will be opening their brand-new show The Luminous at the Corn Exchange on Wednesday 25 ahead of its UK tour this autumn. Commissioned by us, this piece will delve into tales of old, employing the Redcape Theatre’s trademark blend of physical theatre, dark comedy and gripping storytelling to explore the power of narratives to penetrate the present and forge unexpected connections.
