The Old Library offers a new chapter for creativity, community and culture in Newbury

In a world where many people are feeling increasingly disconnected, spaces that bring communities together have never been more important.

That's why the opening of the Old Library in the heart of Newbury is something worth celebrating.

Following an extensive renovation, the Old Library opened its doors in March 2026 and quickly established itself as a welcoming destination where people can meet, relax and feel part of something bigger.

The opening, starting with the Café Bar, marked the beginning of an ambitious vision for the venue, to create a space that supports wellbeing, encourages creativity and helps combat social isolation by bringing people together through shared experiences.

Open Monday to Friday from 10am to 5pm, weekend opening times are available on our website, the Café Bar offers delicious hot and cold drinks, tempting sweet treats and freshly made sandwiches, all served in a welcoming, creative environment. But while the food and drink are excellent, what makes the space special is the atmosphere. It is a place where conversations happen, friendships form and people feel welcome, whether they are regular visitors or stepping inside for the first time. With free Wi-Fi and delightfully cool air conditioning it also makes for the perfect spot to work from or hold catch-ups and meetings with colleagues.

In April 2026 the programme of courses and workshops began and, since then, participants of all ages have been able to access a growing programme of courses and workshops designed to inspire, educate and connect.

The newly launched autumn season of courses and workshops, now on sale, continues that mission. Young people can enjoy activities such as Street Dance, Family Circus Skills and Create and Make holiday sessions, developing confidence and creativity while having fun and making friends. Adults can take part in sessions including Post-Natal Singing, Musical Theatre Dance and Mobility and Balance, while those aged 55 and over can choose from opportunities such as Tai Chi, Sing 55 and Dare to Dance. This summer, the Old Library will also be host to a series of Summer Sessions for the first time. These include one-off workshops and courses to keep people of all ages active and creative during the summer break. These sessions include favourites like Sing 55, Immersive Sound Bath and Adult Theatre Skills, alongside brand-new Musical Theatre Mornings for young people.
