Newbury Sounds - Meet the Bands: Colorado River

Get to know the bands who will be performing at our next fundraising event, Newbury Sounds!
With our next fundraising event for the Old Library Campaign coming up on Friday 14 March, we have spoken to each of the bands performing on the night to learn more about them and what to expect from their performance at Newbury Sounds.
Next up we have Colorado River, a country and folk music trio. Formed in 2018 in Newbury, Milena and Ken started with a passion for bringing folk music to Berkshire, then they later welcomed Newbury musician Nathan Holland on drums. Here's what they had to say:
What genre of music do you play?
Country and Folk (with a hint of Americana these days), maybe it’s just Americana now. The genre has always been a passion of ours and not many were playing it back when we first started, but it’s really good to see the country scene coming to life across the UK.
Who is your band’s biggest musical inspiration?
That’s a really tough one because we all have different influences. Johnny Cash, Jason Isbell, Dolly Parton and Chris Stapleton would probably be our core influences, which derive from different eras of country/folk/americana music.
What’s the song you’re most excited to play at Newbury Sounds?
When we finalise our setlist, we will let you know. Jokes aside, our set will compile of all our own tracks, but we are particularly excited about a brand-new song that we have written in the last few days, so we are pushing to have it ready just for this event.
Do you have any memories connected to the Corn Exchange?
Nathan saw the panto and Barbie… (two completely separate situations). Ken has been fortunate to play the Corn Exchange a few times. Both Milena and Ken also went to a Johnny Cash tribute gig, which was the only tribute endorsed by the Cash family - absolutely superb night.
