The road to Santiago de Compostela is one of the world’s great pilgrimage routes; it’s also a journey through time and the spirit, and a voyage into the timeless soul of European culture itself.

For the innovative composer Joby Talbot inspiration struck 'in Leon Cathedral while the sun was setting…I thought of a lux aeterna'.

The result was Path of Miracles: a huge, endlessly rich choral pilgrimage to Santiago, composed in 2005 for Nigel Short and the virtuoso voices of Tenebrae, who now return to a work that has already become a 21st century classic.

It has long been Nigel’s ambition to bring the Path of Miracles to the Festival and to Douai Abbey. Candlelight, singing from memory and an imaginative use of the Abbey’s unique architecture and acoustic will guarantee an unforgettable performance by Tenebrae at its dramatic best.
