Summer Work Experience Review 2017

I am a year 10 student and for my second week of work experience I applied to the Corn Exchange in Newbury, as I am very interested in the performing arts and wanted to find out more about what happens behind the scenes. I was very eager to discover how the activities, film, theatre, music and dance aspects that the Corn Exchange offer, come together through different teams of people. I love the wide variety of projects they provide from toddler dancing to the Ageing Creatively scheme for people over 55!

During the week I have loved researching and creating posters for the future projects as it has allowed me to find out more about the process required for successful marketing. I also enjoyed working with Choir 55 because I think it’s a really good programme and it was a lot of fun talking to the members of the choir.

Through the week I feel that I gained more of an insight into the jobs there are in theatres and art centres that do not include performing or other visible positions. I have found it extremely interesting and I now have more ideas as to which job I may enjoy most within a theatre in the future. All the staff were incredibly kind and welcoming. I would definitely recommend the Corn Exchange to any school student passionate about the performing arts, and I would like to thank the staff for allowing me to have this exciting opportunity!
